Most beautiful roads of Switzerland

Planning a road trip in Switzerland? Many pass roads are open from May to October but closed during winter (e.g., Albula, Grimsel, Gotthard, Furka). Some passes are open throughout the year (e.g., Julier, Maloja, Klausen, Schwägalp) as well as all Swiss roads featured below.

Enjoy our selection of beautiful (some say: instagrammable) Swiss roads. Most of them are road classics and some have gone viral on Instagram. Meet the photographers below.

Julier pass

This pass connects Engadin with the rest of Switzerland. It’s probably the most instagrammable road in Switzerland. Julier pass (2284m asl) is open all year. In winter it’s the only road connecting Engadin with the rest of Switzerland.

Maloja pass

This is Maloja pass (1862m asl). It is open all year as well as it’s the only road to Bregaglia (Bergell) from Switzerland. Drones are an excellent way to capture mountain passes. However there is no need for drone here, the photo is made from the car parking above the road.

Albula pass

In summer, Albula pass (2312m asl) is a great alternative to Julier pass. It connects the Albula valley with Engadin.

Don’t miss Lake Palpuogna (Palpouognasee) by the Albula road. Try to find some new perspectives as it’s a pretty famous photo spot.

Klausenpass

If you like street photography then Klausenpass (1948m asl) is for you. It connects the cantons Glarus and Uri.

This amazing view down to the village Aesch is taken from the Klausen road.

Gotthard pass

This pass takes longer, but is more fun than the Gotthard tunnel.

Furkapass

You’ve probably seen this place on Instagram before. Belvedère hotel is abandoned but always trending on Instagram.

Furkapass is not far from Rhone Glacier.

Oberalp pass

Beatenberg at Lake Thun

This pit stop on your way from Thun to Interlaken is another famous photo spot. Find the exact location on the map.

Lauterbrunnen roads

Another classic Swiss road is in Lauterbrunnen. Click on the picture and scroll to get more ideas for shooting at this place.

Splügen pass

Probably the most beautiful road between Ticino and Italy.

Nufenen pass

Off the beaten paths between Ticino and Valais.

Les Pyramides d’Euseigne

If you happen to be in Valais: these pyramids are worth a detour.

Schwägalp

A hidden gem is Schwägalp pass in Appenzell
